What is counselling?

Counselling allows an opportunity for a client and counsellor to engage in a safe, non judgemental environment.  The client feels free to share what they are going through or being challenged with. Together they will look at ways to assist the client to cope with life challenges and further enhance their emotional functioning and mental well being. 

Where are the rooms based?

I currently have Sessional rooms in Goodwood but looking to expand to the Southern Suburbs.  Please email or Whatsapp me should you have any questions.

Do you offer online counselling internationally?

I currently offer online counselling for clients within the South African borders, however, I am looking to offer counselling Internationally in the near future.

How long are the counselling sessions?

The individual sessions will typically be for 50 minutes, whilst the Group Sessions will usually be 90 minutes.

How often do I have to see the counsellor?

Usually the client and I will meet weekly until the sessions are concluded; however, this will be discussed in the first session or two.

Do you counsel all age groups?

I am able to counsel school going aged children, adolescents, teenagers, University students and ALL other ages.

Do you provide counselling for people with disability?

I do provide counselling & support for people who have been diagnosed with a disability in so far as it is within my scope of practice.   I also provide counselling for those who have to care for their loved ones who have a disability. What is career counselling?

Career counselling is geared towards assisting a client to help them to choose, change or leave a career.  This can occur during high school, early adulthood, during midlife changes or early retirement. Those facing retirement feel that they can add value to society and counselling at this stage of life could be very beneficial.  

There are stresses and strains involved when one changes a career or when it ends prematurely due to economic downturn or retrenchment.  A conversation with a career counsellor could be the most important step to take to positively influence your future.

What are your fees?

I currently run a cash practice and my rates are in line with medical aid tariffs. I am in the process of registration with *BHF* which will result in clients being able to claim directly from their medical aid.

How does payment work?

Payments can be made before the session via EFT or Cash immediately after the session is completed.

Do you offer Medical Aid?

I am in the process of making an application to the BHF for this purpose and will update my website, once I am able to offer it.

What if I don't like counselling?

You may terminate the counselling sessions at any point.  However, it is always useful to give feedback to the counsellor should you do so, but you reserve the right to cancel but giving notice to the counsellor of your intention.

What if I booked a session, but have to cancel?

It is always preferable to inform the Counsellor within a 24 hour period of your inability to attend a session, so that the the Counsellor may adjust their diary accordingly.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes counselling is confidential.  I follow the ethical, legal and professional guidelines of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.  What this means is, that whatever you share in the counselling room cannot be shared with anyone else, unless you have given your permission.  There are however, a few exceptions. If there is any possibility that the client may harm them self or another person, or if I become aware of child abuse, I am required by law to report this information to the appropriate authorities. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions regarding this.

Do you provide group counselling for large groups?

The maximum for a group will be 10 people but this may be dependent on the individuals, the topic as well as the level of group discussion.

Do you provide counselling for people who are carers?

I do provide Counselling for people who are carers of others who have mental health challenges, and or for those look after those who are sick.
